The Flagler Institute for Rehabilitation has been treating patients with any forms of swelling in any part of their body. It had been estimated that approximately 5 million people have some form of edema. (1. US Census Bureau, Population Estimates, 2004). edema. With an aging population, an expected increase in prevalence has occurred. The risks involved with swelling are many with the most serious being cellulitis, poor wound healing and fall risk.
